Kristian Braathen Trio Featuring Steve Maddock!
This one time performance of vocalist Steve Maddock joining the renown Kristian Braathen Trio will be a fantastic evening of beautifully crafted arrangements of jazz standards as well as some original music.  
Based in Vancouver, BC, the Kristian Braathen Trio has been performing together for more than 15 years.  Miles Black- piano, Steve Holy- acoustic bass, Kristian Braathen- drums, are the regular members of this dynamic ensemble.  This group has performing extensively together in the Vancouver region, as well as Vancouver Island, and many cities in Western Canada.
Steve Maddock is one of the most inspiring vocalists in Canada.  The coming together of these four musicians will be a night to remember.

Steve Maddock- Over the past two decades, Steve Maddock has been steadily establishing himself as one of Canadas most versatile vocal talents. Whether sharing a concert stage with a 65-piece symphony orchestra, performing with a 10-piece show band on a cruise ship, or fronting a jazz trio in a local club, hes able to change gears effortlessly and present the music in a way thats honest and fresh. Hes been a soloist with The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, The Vancouver Chamber Choir, The Pacific Baroque Orchestra and The Dal Richards Jazz Orchestra, as well as being a featured artist on CBC Radio (Hot Air, Tonic, The Homestretch, Choral Concert, Disc Drive, The Early Edition and Sounds Like Canada).

Miles Black- Based in Vancouver, BC, Miles Black is a highly respected career musician bringing an enormous wealth of musical experience and expertise to most every facet of the music industry.  Firstly known as one of Canada's most accomplished jazz pianists, Miles is also highly acclaimed and sought after as an arranger, producer, composer, session musician, guitarist, vocalist, bassist, saxophonist, songwriter, and musical theatre director.  Adding to that, he has worked as a music therapist and collegiate music instructor. Especially in Vancouver, Miles Black is well know as the "first call' when musicians are looking for top professional enhancements to their projects.  Just some of the artists and acts with whom Miles has worked with include Mark Murphy, Lee Konitz, Slide Hampton, George Coleman, Scott Hamilton, Sheila Jordan, Chuck Israels, Dee Daniels, Paul Horn, Skywalk, Max Roach, Harry Sweets Edison, Maynard Ferguson, Lew Tabackin, Claudio Roditi, Ingrid Jensen, Houston Person, Johnny Frigo, and Von Freeman.  The list is lengthy and includes many other well known stars of the music world too numerous to note here.

Steve Holy- A native of Kingston Ontario, Steve Holy has been playing the double bass professionally since 1986. Since then, he has lived in Montreal, Toronto & Vancouver, playing with many of Canadas finest jazz musicians. Know for his deep groove, warm tone and creative approach, Steve brings together an extensive knowledge of jazz and the practice of Zen Buddhism to help create a supportive and supple foundation in any ensemble. He has appeared on many recordings, including 16 CDs, and is the recipient of 2 Canada Council Grants. He is also a skilled woodworker.

Kristian Braathen- After relocating to Vancouver from his hometown of Sechelt, Kristian received a Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz Studies from Capilano University in 2004. While at university, he studied with jazz drummers Dave Robbins and Blaine Wikjord. After graduation, Kristian travelled to Los Angeles for a study intensive with world renowned jazz drummer, Jeff Hamilton (drummer with Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown, Diana Krall). Kristian later received a B.C. Arts Council Grant to travel to New York City to study with jazz drummer Kenny Washington (Tony Bennett, Bill Charlap).
During a hiatus from his studies at Capilano University, Kristian performed in exotic places such as Tahiti, Grand Cayman and New Orleans from 1998 to 1999. In addition, Kristian toured extensively in Canada and the United States with the Russell Jackson Band (former bassist with BB King) from 2000 to 2003, where he performed with such names as renowned jazz saxophonist Donald Harrison (Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Terence Blanchard,) and Matt Guitar Murphy (The Blues Brothers.)
As a jazz musician in Vancouver, Kristian regularly performs with musicians such as Miles Black, Tony Foster, Russ Botten, Sharon Minemoto, and David Sikula. From 2008 to present, Kristian has led his own jazz trio, Kristian Braathen Trio. In 2015, he released his debut album, Tempus Fugit, which featured pianist Miles Black and bassist Jodi Proznick. This album has been featured on such radio shows as CBCs Hot Air and the renown jazz radio station out of Seattle, KPLU. The current line up of the Kristian Braathen Trio is Miles Black- piano, Steve Holy- bass and Kristian Braathen- drums
